Jet black on the fancy's biggest coat, copper eyes by rule, and the registry's own note that dense colors wear a silkier, tougher coat. The whole file.

A black Persian is the Solid Color Division's showpiece: dense from root to tip on the fancy's largest coat, with COPPER eyes required by the standards, the orange-on-black contrast that makes the show cats look lit from inside. The mechanism is the simplest in the book (a solid coat), and the standards ask for evenness above all: sound black to the roots, without rustiness or smoke undertones.

The texture note straight from a registry

The best black-specific fact in our research is 's own grooming-adjacent observation: coat texture tracks color density, with "a silky one associated with dominant colors like red and black... shinier and more resilient". Black Persians, by their own registry's account, tend to carry a glossier, slightly tougher coat than the dilutes, which owners often notice as marginally easier combing. The daily routine (the grooming guide) does not change; the mirror finish is the reward.

Living black, practically

Sunlight can rust a black coat's tips over time (ordinary pigment chemistry, most visible pre-molt); tear staining shows less than on light coats but the daily eye-wipe still applies; and no market source we read prices black above other Persian colors: the drama comes standard.

Reading a black Persian

  • Dense black to the roots: the standards fault rustiness and smoke undertones
  • Copper eyes required, in every standard we read
  • 's own texture note: dominant colors like black wear a silkier, more resilient coat
  • Sun-rusted tips before a molt are chemistry, not a fault at home

Frequently asked questions

What eye color do black Persians have?

Copper, by rule, in every standard we read: the orange-on-black contrast is the look's signature.

Are black Persian cats rare?

No: solid black is a founding division color, unrestricted everywhere and carrying no premium in any market source we read.

Why does my black Persian look reddish?

Sun-bleached tips and pre-molt rusting are ordinary pigment chemistry on dense black coats; the standards fault rustiness in the ring, not in your living room.

Is a black Persian's coat different to groom?

TICA's own note says dense colors like black wear a silkier, more resilient coat: same daily comb, often a slightly easier one, and a gloss the dilutes cannot match.
