Japanese researchers traced it to thirteen fatty acids stored in lipid droplets in the kidney, a feature seen in cat kidneys for over a century that nobody could explain. Cookie here, with science on my side for once: a 2019 Oregon State study gave cats the same attachment test used on toddlers, and 64.3 percent of kittens and 65.8 percent of adults came out securely attached, the same share as human babies.
