The reason you have seen the name used three different ways online is that the registries genuinely disagree about what the Cymric IS, and this page maps all five answers with dates, because "is it a real breed" has no single honest answer.

(Canada): states in its own words that it judges Manx and Cymric "as two separate breeds" while sharing one standard and allowing free interbreeding.
(Britain): as of its most current policy document (April 2023), the Cymric has NOT been granted recognition under that name, the only registry of the five to explicitly withhold it. (Australia): gives the Cymric its own standard distinct from the Manx's, closer to 's practice, though its document is itself sourced from a 2014 GCCF text, a paperwork wrinkle we report as found.
So: the same longhaired kitten is a breed in Texas, a division in New Jersey, two-breeds-one- standard in Canada, unrecognised under its name in Britain, and its own standard in Australia. The confusion online is not an error anyone made; it is the actual state of the paperwork.
The coat, and what it changes
