Every figure here comes from a live marketplace sample or a named source, read on 17 August 2026. And this breed hides one pattern worth knowing before you start clicking: established Abyssinian catteries, across every market we checked, almost never publish a price. Nine out of nine named cattery websites we read (US, UK, Canada) route you to a conversation instead. That is normal practice for this breed, not evasion. It means marketplace samples and dated guides are the honest way to frame a budget.

United States: $1,300 to $3,200 on the live market

A live marketplace read returned ten listings from $1,300 to $3,200 across Florida, New York and Wisconsin. One working cattery that does publish its own card lists kittens at $2,100 to $3,200: the top of the market, stated by the seller itself. The guide-site layer runs lower ($500 to $2,400 across five sources), and one source names a distinct show-quality tier at $1,500 to $4,000. Read together: pet kittens from registered breeders realistically land in the mid-$1,000s to low $3,000s. The $500-ish figures on generic guides sit below anything the live market actually showed us.

United Kingdom: registration status is the price line

A 33-listing live read ran £200 to £1,750, with £1,200 the most common single price and the £1,750 top attached to a stated champion line. The most useful UK finding splits the market explicitly by paperwork: roughly £800-1,200 from /-registered breeders, against £300-600 from unregistered ones. The two named UK catteries we read (both GCCF-affiliated) publish no price, the same pattern as everywhere else.

Canada: the cheapest search door, a real live range

Eight live listings ran CA$600 to CA$2,500 across BC, Ontario, Quebec and Alberta, with one flag a buyer should appreciate: the CA$2,500 top listing is explicitly a SOMALI, the Abyssinian's longhaired sibling, surfacing under the Abyssinian search term. An Ontario directory pegs the province at $800-2,200. The three named Canadian catteries we read publish no price.

Australia: honestly, one number, and it is thin

Australia is this page's honesty test. A purpose-built breeder directory lists ten Abyssinian catteries across four states, every single one marked "Contact Breeder for pricing": zero published prices on the whole platform. The registries and club pages carry none either. The only usable figure found anywhere is AU$800-900, from a single undated comment-aggregation source: single-source, low confidence, printed with that label. If you are budgeting in Australia, treat the conversation with the breeder as the real price discovery. The shelter alternative runs $220-270 at RSPCA NSW.

Adoption, kept separate

Shelter fees are a bundle (vaccination, chip, neutering), not a breed price, and purebred Abyssinians rarely reach general shelters. US $50-250 across sources; UK £80-120 (Cats Protection); Canada $260-300 (Ontario SPCA); Australia $220-270 (RSPCA NSW). Never compare these to a breeder figure; they buy different things.

What does NOT move the price

No source in any of the four markets ties Abyssinian price to coat color, a genuine difference from several breeds we cover where color premiums are routine. Pedigree line, registration status and show quality are the levers; the color you pick is free.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an Abyssinian cat cost?

From live 17/08/2026 reads: US $1,300-3,200 (cattery card top: $3,200; show tier to $4,000 per one source), UK £200-1,750 with registered breeders at £800-1,200, Canada CA$600-2,500, Australia effectively price-on-application (one thin AU$800-900 figure exists).

Why don't Abyssinian breeders list prices?

Nine of nine named cattery sites we read publish none: this breed's established breeders price through a conversation. It is the market's normal practice, not a red flag by itself.

Are Abyssinian kittens cheaper without papers?

In the UK the split is explicit: roughly £300-600 unregistered against £800-1,200 GCCF/TICA-registered. Papers are much of what you are paying for: tested parents and a traceable pedigree.

Do rare Abyssinian colors cost more?

No source in any market ties price to color for this breed. Line quality and registration drive the price; the color is a preference, not a premium.

Medical information applies to every reader. Prices, legal duties and common practice do not: unless stated otherwise, they are given for the United States, and they differ in the UK, Canada and Australia, and often between states or provinces. Check with your own vet and your own local authority.
