Bengal Cat Names: Steal From the Breed's Own Story
Names from the Bengal's own story: the founding Millwood cats, the record holders, the leopard cat's Latin name, and editorial picks for spotted, snow and charcoal coats.

Honest label first: nobody has ever run a real survey of what Bengal owners name their cats (the one breed-name study that exists predates the breed's acceptance and skips it entirely). So what follows is editorial, ours. It is built from something better than random lists: the breed's own documented history.
Names history already used
The founding cats read like a name generator on their own: Millwood (Jean Mill's cattery, the breed's cradle), Toby and Tashi (her 1982 Delhi imports), Tonga (the F1 shown at shows in 1979), Headwind (the first Supreme Grand Champion Bengal, 1991), and Leopardette, the working name the whole breed carried before 's board voted "Bengal" for all generations in February 1988.
The record holders offer two more with certificates attached. Sashimi, the Guinness scooter-record Bengal. Boomer, who skateboarded through a 13-person human tunnel. Pop culture contributes Lord Tubbington (real name Aragon), the Bengal who played himself on Glee, and Suki, the Canadian adventure Bengal with a passport most humans would envy.
Wild-side names
The ancestor's Latin name, Prionailurus bengalensis, hides two: Prion and Bengalensis (call-name Ben). The geography behind the name gives Bengal itself, Delhi, Rajah, Kali, Monsoon and Teak. The look suggests Rosette, Marble, Glitter (a real trait, and now a sequenced gene), Charcoal, Smoke, Ember and Zorro, straight from the charcoal mask the Canadian standard describes.
For spotted, snow and silver coats
Spotted and brown: Leo, Panthera, Ocelot, Cheetah, Pixel, Domino, Freckle, Maple, Amber, Copper, Rusty, Sahara, Simba, Nala. Snow (, mink, sepia): Lynx, Aspen, Alpine, Ivory, Casper, Yeti, Latte, Chai, Winter, Aqua (the mink's own eye color). Silver and blue: Sterling, Pewter, Mercury, Slate, Storm, Misty, Graphite, Luna.
For the personality
The breed's registries describe an athlete, so name the athlete: Rocket, Turbo, Bolt, Ninja, Parkour, Havoc, Ziggy, Blitz, Scout, Pounce. For the water fascination itself documents: Splash, River, Marina, Puddle. And for the dignity under all that speed: Baron, Duchess, Sable, Onyx, Cleo, Isis, Zara, Kimba.
How to road-test a name
Two syllables carry across a house better than four. An s or ee sound lands well in a cat's hearing range. And the real test is whether you can say it at 6am to an animal standing on your chest. Try the shortlist out loud for a day before the microchip paperwork makes it official.

Frequently asked questions
What are the most popular Bengal cat names?
Nobody knows, honestly: no naming survey covers the breed. The closest thing to canon is the breed's own history: Millwood, Toby, Tonga, Sashimi, Boomer.
What should I name my Bengal cat?
Start from the coat (Rosette, Sterling, Aspen), the ancestry (Prion, Bengal, Delhi) or the engine (Rocket, Ninja, Splash), then road-test the shortlist out loud.
What is a good name for a snow Bengal?
The snow family's own vocabulary works: Lynx, Ivory, Aspen, Latte, Chai, Aqua for a mink's eye color, Casper for a lynx kitten born near-white.

This is information, not veterinary advice, and it cannot tell you what is wrong with your cat. Our rule is a simple one: if something is wrong with your cat, call your vet, and call an emergency clinic if it is out of hours. Nothing you read here is a reason to wait.
Medical information applies to every reader. Prices, legal duties and common practice do not: unless stated otherwise, they are given for the United States, and they differ in the UK, Canada and Australia, and often between states or provinces. Check with your own vet and your own local authority.
