The blue point is the seal point run through the dilution gene: the same pattern in cold storage. Blue point or lilac point?
The pair buyers actually confuse. Two cues, both from the standards. The blue point's body is COLD bluish-white, where the lilac's is "glacial white with no shading." And the leather decides it: slate-colored nose and pads on a blue point, "lavender-pink" on a lilac. Grey-blue leather means blue; pink-tinged frost means lilac.
The mechanism, briefly
Like every Siamese color, the points exist because the breed's temperature-sensitive pigment gene only works on the cool extremities, and kittens are born white (the colors hub carries the genetics). Blue, as a dilute, develops its points more slowly than seal. A pale eight-week-old blue point kitten is on schedule, not underdone. Body shading deepens with age here too, gradually and harmlessly.
