A Canadian market with exactly one visible listing. And an Australian market where, after fifteen-plus sources and five search phrasings, no price exists to report. Every figure below is named, dated and sourced, including the $5,300 outlier and why it is not a typo.

United States: a tight cluster and one explained ceiling
Three independent sources agree on the core band. Somali Olympus publishes explicit tiering starting at $1,600. Front Range Abyssinians & Somalis lists at $1,800. And GoKitty's four genuinely Somali-tagged live listings ran $1,800 to $2,500. Above the cluster sits one national listing at $5,300. It is best read with the secondary literature's own "up to $5,000 for show-winning lines" as the show-quality ceiling, never blended into the pet-kitten band.
One trap our research hit twice on the same day: a breed-filtered marketplace search is not proof every result is the breed searched. GoKitty's Somali filter returned ten results, of which only four were actually Somalis. Read the listing, not the filter.
United Kingdom: a lower door than you expect
The live market at our check: one active Pets4Homes listing at £950. The platform's own FAQ states "upwards of £400 for a well-bred kitten", a floor lower than most pedigree breeds on this site. Two undated Gumtree guides give overlapping ranges (£400-800 and £200-1,000). Everything reachable clusters in a £400 to £1,200 band, with the caveat that the two guide ranges are undated and the one live listing is a sample of one. has recognized the breed since 1998, so the club route is mature.
Canada: one listing, said in bold
Canada is a single-source market: one live Kijiji listing at CA$2,500 (Vancouver). Five named Canadian catteries were reached, and all decline to publish a price (one states a $500 deposit and nothing else). A breeder directory's two Canadian entries are both dead domains. One figure is a data point, not a market rate. Budget conversations with Canadian breeders start from contact, not from a listings page.
Australia: a checked absence, not a gap
No Australian Somali price exists to publish. Fifteen-plus URLs and five search phrasings, including the fallback source that worked for the Abyssinian, produced zero primary figures. One marketplace confirms zero listings outright, and the freshest cattery content found dates from November 2016. We publish the absence as the finding. Australian buyers work through /-affiliated Abyssinian-and-Somali breeders, and should expect waiting lists and an imported-lines conversation.
Buying well, whatever the market
The questions that matter for this breed come from its own health file. Ask any breeder for the parents' PK-deficiency DNA results (the test exists, is cheap, and the breed's measured carrier rates justify asking everywhere), plus rdAc PRA testing, all three sold as a bundle for exactly this breed family. A "Somali" at a suspiciously low price deserves the same mislabelling scrutiny our marketplace check showed. Ticked, ruffed and semi-longhaired is the look; paperwork is the proof.

Because the $5,300 top is a show-line ceiling that secondary sources independently predict at "up to $5,000", not part of the pet-kitten cluster. The named catteries' pet pricing starts at $1,600-1,800.
Are Somali cats rare?
Genuinely thin outside the US: one live listing in Canada, none in Australia, and a UK market that moves by club and breeder contact. Waiting lists are normal.
What should I ask a Somali breeder before paying?
The parents' PK-deficiency and rdAc DNA results (both sold in the breed family's own test bundle), the registry paperwork, and whether the kitten is actually a Somali: our own marketplace check found six of ten "Somali-filtered" results were other breeds.
Do Somalis and Abyssinians cost the same?
